HOW TO HOLD A PROPER CHIN-OVER-BAR HOLD

Setup  Grip the bar facing the camera and pull up so your chin clears it.

  1. Hold at the top with your chin above the bar.
  2. Squeeze your back and keep your elbows driving down.
  3. Hold steady — no swinging.
Form cue: Chin clear of bar

How The Check Works

THREE STEPS TO A SCORED HOLD

1

Prop your phone and get in frame

Phone at roughly torso height, stand facing the camera. A quick camera test checks lighting, distance, and angle before you start.

2

The camera locks a 17-point skeleton on you

GOODREPS measures your elbow angle (shoulder → elbow → wrist) against the pose target (~45°) on-device — no wearables. A pull-up bar — start from a pull or jump to chin-above, then hold.

3

Settle in — the timer only counts real alignment

The hold timer runs while you’re in the pose. Drift out and it pauses (doesn’t reset) until you find the shape again.

Under The Hood

WHAT THE CAMERA WATCHES

Fix These First

COMMON CHIN-OVER-BAR HOLD MISTAKES

Chin barely hooking then fading

Get clearly over, then own it. Brushing the bar is not a hold.

Shrugging into the ears

Keep neck long; think chest toward bar without turtling.

Kipping to stay up

Still body. Swing means you are negotiating with gravity, not holding.

Holding your breath

Breathe behind the brace. Short holds still need air.

Your Data

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Rep counting runs entirely on your device — your camera feed is never uploaded.

Pose detection runs in your browser via TensorFlow.js. Camera frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, nothing leaves your phone, and we never see them. Sign-in is optional; skip it and everything stays local.

FAQ

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Do I need gear for chin-over-bar hold?

Usually just floor space (and whatever the hold requires — bar, wall, or bench). Your phone camera does the coaching.

Does it work in a home gym or low light?

Run the built-in camera test first — it checks your lighting, distance, and angle with live green checks before you start. If a rep still slips through, manual counting is always one tap away.

Is my camera feed uploaded anywhere?

No. Pose detection runs entirely on your phone, in your browser. Frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded.
