HOW TO DO A PROPER FORWARD RAISE

Setup  Turn side-on to the camera, weights resting in front of your thighs.

  1. Raise the weights straight out in front of you to shoulder height.
  2. Keep your arms nearly straight and your torso still.
  3. Lower under control.

How The Check Works

THREE STEPS TO A SCORED FORWARD RAISE

1

Prop your phone and get in frame

Phone at roughly torso height, set up side-on to the camera. A quick camera test checks lighting, distance, and angle before you start.

2

The camera locks a 17-point skeleton on you

GOODREPS measures your shoulder angle (hip → shoulder → wrist) on-device — no wearables. Light dumbbells or plates — this is a deltoid isolator, not an ego lift.

3

Move — and watch the form bar

The bar fills from ~18° toward ~65° at the bottom. Cut range short and it tells you; full ROM is what counts.

Under The Hood

WHAT THE CAMERA WATCHES

Fix These First

COMMON FORWARD RAISE MISTAKES

Going above shoulder height every rep

Stop around shoulder level unless the app cues otherwise. Higher often means traps and sway.

Leaning back to finish

If you have to lean, the weight is too heavy. Stand tall and raise lighter.

Locked elbows

A soft bend protects the joint and keeps tension on the front delts.

Shrugging at the top

Shoulders stay down away from the ears while the arms float up.

Your Data

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Rep counting runs entirely on your device — your camera feed is never uploaded.

Pose detection runs in your browser via TensorFlow.js. Camera frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, nothing leaves your phone, and we never see them. Sign-in is optional; skip it and everything stays local.

FAQ

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Do I need any equipment to check my forward raise form?

Just your phone for most variations. Add free weights when the pattern is clean — the app still scores the movement either way.

Does it work in a home gym or low light?

Run the built-in camera test first — it checks your lighting, distance, and angle with live green checks before you start. If a rep still slips through, manual counting is always one tap away.

Is my camera feed uploaded anywhere?

No. Pose detection runs entirely on your phone, in your browser. Frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded.
