Coming to Google Play & the App Store▶ Try The Rep CounterHOW TO DO A PROPER TRICEP KICKBACK
Setup Turn side-on to the camera, hinge forward at the hips, back flat, upper arm parallel to your torso, elbow bent.
- Extend your forearm straight back until the arm is fully locked out.
- Squeeze the triceps, then return to the bent start.
- Keep the upper arm still — only the elbow moves.
Same sheet as the ⓘ panel in the app — animated demo included.
HANDS-FREE IN THREE STEPS
Prop your phone and get in frame
Phone at roughly torso height, set up side-on to the camera. A quick camera test checks lighting, distance, and angle before you start.
The camera locks a 17-point skeleton on you
GOODREPS measures your elbow angle (shoulder → elbow → wrist) on-device — no wearables, no clickers. One light dumbbell (or two). Hinge at the hips so your torso is nearly parallel to the floor.
Just work — the counter does the counting
A rep banks at the bottom (~145°) and re-arms near ~55°. Half reps don’t count; after 3 clean reps it calibrates to your range.
WHAT MAKES A REP COUNT
- Your elbow angle — from roughly 55° bent at the start out toward 145° locked behind you.
- Upper arm staying glued to your side — only the forearm moves.
- A full lockout at the top — soft elbows do not count.
COMMON TRICEP KICKBACK MISTAKES
Dropping the upper arm
If the elbow drifts down, the shoulder takes over. Pin the upper arm and kick only from the elbow.
Using a weight that forces a swing
Light enough to pause at lockout. Swing means the weight picked you.
Shrugging the working shoulder
Keep the shoulder quiet. The tricep owns this rep, not the trap.
Rushing the return
Lower under control. The eccentric is half the point.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Do I need any equipment to check my tricep kickback form?
Just your phone for most variations. Add free weights when the pattern is clean — the app still scores the movement either way.
Does it work in a home gym or low light?
Run the built-in camera test first — it checks your lighting, distance, and angle with live green checks before you start. If a rep still slips through, manual counting is always one tap away.
Is my camera feed uploaded anywhere?
No. Pose detection runs entirely on your phone, in your browser. Frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded.
